Fancy sapphire

Sapphire also exists in many beautiful colours other than blue, and these are even rarer: the "fancy sapphires".

Only 9% of all mined sapphires are pink, purple, yellow or green. Particularly rare, and therefore very valuable, are the beautiful pink-orange sapphires from Sri Lanka: the padparadscha sapphire, which means "lotus flower" in Sinhalese.

Princess Eugenie of York wears a famous padparadscha sapphire engagement ring. Jenny McCarthy wears a white gold engagement ring with a yellow sapphire and diamonds. And last but not least, there is Nicole Richie's white gold engagement ring with a pink sapphire.
