Fancy coloured diamond
Fancy coloured diamonds occur in a very diverse palette of yellow, brown, blue, green, pink and red. These colours are caused by specific elements or impurities and/or by a distortion in the crystal structure.
Pink, yellow and red diamonds are much rarer than white diamonds. Colour and clarity strongly determine the price. They are highly coveted for engagement rings.
Heidi Klum owns a canary yellow diamond engagement ring, Blake Lively is the proud owner of a pink diamond engagement ring, and Jennifer Lopez received a beautiful yellow diamond ring from her fiancé Ben Affleck.
The rarest colour in diamond is red. The largest and most expensive red diamond ever found is the Moussaieff Red. In the rough it weighed an estimated 11 carats; after being cut into a beautiful trillion it still weighed 5.11 carats.
