Red ruby
This stone stands for love and romance. In Sanskrit ruby is called "ratnaraj", meaning "king of gemstones". Deep red rubies are indeed among the most valuable gemstones in the world.
Rubies occur in various shades, from pinkish red and "pigeon blood" to dark red. The colour depends on where the stones are mined. Large specimens are very rare and far more precious than diamond.
Famous jewels have been made with beautiful rubies, such as the tiara of Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and Elizabeth Taylor's stunning collection. Beautiful ruby engagement rings are worn by Katy Perry, Eva Longoria, Victoria Beckham and Jessica Simpson.
