Blue zircon
Zircon is a highly fashionable and colourful gemstone, often confused with cubic zirconia. Cubic zirconia is a synthetic imitation that usually mimics diamond, whereas zircon is a natural gemstone. What is more, at 4.4 billion years old it is the oldest gemstone on earth.
In the Middle Ages it was believed that this stone promoted sleep, dispelled evil spirits and brought wealth and wisdom.
Zircon occurs in a diverse range of colours, including yellow, green, red, brown and blue. The orange zircon with its so-called Fanta colour is highly coveted. Celine Roelens also frequently uses vivid blue zircons in her collections.
