Everything you need to know about wedding rings: cost, wearing and tips
Blog · 25 November 2024

A wedding ring is a lifelong promise and a jewel you will hopefully love wearing every day. That is why I am happy to share everything you need to know about choosing and wearing a wedding ring, from cost and materials to the hand that suits your ring best.
What does a wedding ring cost?
The price of a wedding ring can vary greatly and depends on the material and how the ring is made. My wedding rings are all handcrafted in 18-carat gold and set exclusively with natural diamonds. A ring from my collection starts at around € 1,200, including a personal engraving and a free resizing within the first six months after purchase.
You wear a wedding ring for life, so it is crucial that it is sturdy and perfectly made. I have a wide choice in my studio, but if you want something truly unique, I am also happy to design a bespoke ring. That way your ring tells a story as unique as your bond.
Which hand do you wear your wedding ring on?
Traditionally the wedding ring is worn on the right hand in many European countries, including Germany, Austria, Poland and Norway. In countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and France it is worn on the left, because people once believed that the "vena amoris", the vein of love, ran directly from the left ring finger to the heart (although this is not scientifically true).
In the end there is no fixed rule, and more and more couples choose the hand that feels most comfortable or meaningful to them. Whether you choose tradition or comfort, what matters is what suits you best.
Religious backgrounds and traditions
For some, the choice of hand has a religious origin. Catholics often wear their ring on the left, Protestants usually on the right. In Islamic tradition the ring is more often worn on the right, and at a Jewish ceremony the bride receives the ring on her right hand, after which it is often moved to the left.
Choose what is practical
You can of course also choose from a practical point of view. Are you right-handed? Then it is often more comfortable to wear the ring on the left, so it is less in the way during everyday tasks. Do you work a lot with your hands, or does your job put them under heavy strain? Then it is best to wear the ring on your less active hand to prevent wear.
And the engagement ring?
The choice of hand also matters for the engagement ring. Traditionally it is worn on the left, close to the heart. Many women eventually wear their engagement ring and wedding ring together on one hand. The wedding ring can then be chosen to complement the design of the engagement ring, forming a beautiful whole.
With the right information you can make a conscious choice for a wedding ring that is not only beautiful but also practical and durable.
